‘Behind Closed Doors’: Political Thriller Sets Cast

Writer and director Joseph Sperber’s political murder mystery film “Behind Closed Doors” has announced its cast as it begins production in Los Angeles.

Elijah Reed (“Doom Patrol”), Nick Samson (“Poser”), Melissa Alce (“Matlock”), Christian Haines (“Law & Order”) and Charrell Mack (“The Pitt”) are set to star. This is Sperber’s feature debut, following his live-action short film “Let Us Play” which starred Doug Jones and was an official selection at the LA Shorts International Film Festival.

“Behind Closed Doors” is produced by Galileo Mondol (“Pretty Problems”) and Carlos Lopes for BT Studios (“Overtime Hustle”), alongside Aaron Schmidt, former chief of staff at Tooley Entertainment (“Arthur the King”). Martin Taube (“Holy Cowboys”) serves as director of photography.

Per the official logine, “In the fall of 1979, a wounded federal agent (Haines) collapses into his reclusive neighbor’s (Samson) apartment, causing a routine night to spiral into a nightmarish standoff where secrets unravel, loyalties blur, and no one is who they claim to be.”

“I’m very excited to tell this timely political story set in Washington, exploring truth and paranoia against the backdrop of the Cold War,” Sperber said in a statement. “What particularly intrigues me from a suspense and cinematic standpoint is the idea of presenting the film in real time; immersing the audience as events unfold in a single location over the course of one night.”

“We were immediately drawn to Joseph’s political thriller because of the challenge it presented to us as producers,” Mondol and Schmidt added in a statement. “In a single-location story, there are no gimmicks to hide behind — every performance, creative decision, and technical element has to carry its weight. We knew it would test everyone involved, and that was a big part of why we were excited to embark on this journey with Joseph, shoot the film in Los Angeles, and work with the depth of talent the city offers.”

Reed is represented by AEFH and managed by Han Talent Group. Samson is represented by Brian Twohig at Roger Paul Inc. Alce is repped by NOVA Talent Group and Love Talent. Haines is repped by 5J Management. Mack is repped by 11:11 Entertainment and Collier Talent.
