Netflix’s experimental music competition show Building the Band concluded with the release of its final set of episodes on July 23, revealing who won in the finale. There were three groups left competing for the grand prize: SZN4, 3QUENCY, and Iconyx.
So, who among them took home the prize?
Which group won in Building the Band finale?
In the finale, 3QUENCY won the Building the Band competition’s first season.
The unique Netflix competition saw many musicians competing in this offbeat take on music reality shows. In the end, three groups were left standing. SZN4, the only mixed-gender group in the lineup, Iconyx, a boy band, and 3QUENCY, a girl group, faced off in the final episode.
The judges first eliminated Iconyx, leaving 3QUENCY and SZN4 as the remaining competitors. After both bands gave one last performance, the judges decided that 3QUENCY was the winner of the contest. 3QUENCY’s members — Brianna Mazzola, Nori Royale, and Wennely Quezada — took home the $500,000 prize. “They have proven to us that they are ready. (They are) a band that has shown so much growth, the band that pulled out all the stops tonight,” judge Nicole Scherzinger said. (via USA Today)
SZN4, consisting of Aaliyah Rose, Cameron Goode, Katie Roeder, and Donzell Taggart, finished as runners-up on the first season of Building the Band.
The show originally began with 50 contestants in different booths. They had to listen to each other and decide if they wanted to build a band with anyone else based only on the sound. The show, however, allowed only six bands with 3-5 members each.
The six bands rehearsed together and eventually started the journey that ended with 3QUENCY’s win. The finale was also the late Liam Payne’s last appearance on television. It was taped back in September 2024, weeks before the singer’s death.
