Official Trailer for Indie Film ‘Big Girls Don’t Cry’ from New Zealand

“They’re not your friends!” Blue Fox Entertainment revealed the official US trailer for this indie film from New Zealand tilted Big Girls Don’t Cry, a coming-of-age drama by filmmaker Paloma Schneideman. This first premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, and also screened at SXSW, BFI Flare, TIFF Next Wave, and the Melbourne Film Festival this month. Summer 2006 in rural New Zealand. Over one transformative summer, 14 year-old Sid Bookman discovers desire, identity, and the internet, while she imitates the people she longs to be loved by. As she delves deeper into rebellion, she leaves behind a trail of destruction as she goes. The film stars newcomer Ani Palmer as Sid, with Rain Spencer & Noah Taylor. It’s executive produced by Oscar-winning director Jane Campion. Big Girls Don’t Cry will open in limited theaters in the US starting this October. Another potent LGBTQ indie drama to keep an eye out for this year.

Produced by Thomas Coppell & Vicky Pope. This first premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival playing in the World Dramatic Competition section.
