A new casting report for The Batman 2 has thrown fan expectations into disarray. Sebastian Stan, long fan-cast as Harvey Dent, is now reportedly circling a much darker villain.
Sebastian Stan not playing Two-Face gets mixed reactions from The Batman 2 fans
The reversal lands months after persistent fan campaigns thought Sebastian Stan was the ideal candidate to play Harvey Dent’s tragic descent into Two-Face.
Now, an unconfirmed report from industry insider Jeff Sneider, published via The InSneider newsletter, claims Brian Tyree Henry has secured the Dent role. Stan, meanwhile, is being eyed for Victor Zsasz, one of Batman’s most psychologically unhinged villains. The development has split the fanbase between those mourning a lost fancast and those intrigued by the darker possibilities.
“I don’t believe this. He looks more like a Harvey Dent,” one commenter posted on X (formerly Twitter). Another wrote, “He would be way better as Harvey Dent bru.” The resistance continued, “No no no, we were promised two-face,” while another echoed others’ feelings, “Wasn’t he playing harv……” One summed it up, “Two face would of been a better role for him I don’t think he can pull off Zsasz but we’ll see I’m seated day one either way.”
Yet a contingent voiced confidence in The Batman 2 creative choice. “I’m shocked it’s not Two-Face but I won’t say I’m not excited for this because his range is impressive and Victor slots into the Reevesverse like a glove,” one supporter argued. Another countered the backlash, writing, “I don’t know where people were getting the stupidity of him playing dent.” A third summed up the cautiously optimistic camp simply and wrote, “Interesting, he can definitely pull it off.”
The comic shows just how dark a Zsasz portrayal could become. Created by writer Alan Grant and artist Norm Breyfogle, the character debuted in 1992’s Batman: Shadow of the Bat #1. He operates without a costume, henchmen, or a motive beyond a twisted philosophy. He believes existence is meaningless and that each killing “saves” the victim from a pointless life. His hairless body serves as a canvas of scars — one mark added for every life taken.
Alongside the reported additions of Sebastian Stan and Scarlett Johansson, The Batman 2 brings back Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne.
