The Dazey Phase Boards Kareem J. Mortimer’s ‘House On Fire’

EXCLUSIVE: New York State-based production, sales and distribution company The Dazey Phase has boarded Bahamian director Kareem J. Mortimer’s upcoming psychological thriller House On Fire.

The Dazey Phase’s co-head Jake Casey has signed on as co-production partner, with Tai Duncan on board as a producer.

Written by Jeffrey Scott Edwards and Rob Jaeger, House on Fire is described as a tense, emotionally grounded thriller exploring themes of generational trauma, power dynamics, and the quiet ruptures that ignite when personal histories collide.

It is the latest production to come out of Best Yet Entertainment, the L.A. and Caribbean-based production and distribution company created by Mortimer, Trevite Willis, and Julia Woolley Chatwin in 2020.

Best Yet Entertainment’s previous credits include 2026 Haitian Oscar entry Kidnapping Inc. and Qasim Basir’s To Live and Die and Live, which premiered in Sundance in 2023.

“We’re excited to partner with The Dazey Phase on a film that pushes into deeper psychological terrain while still holding true to the kind of urgent, human stories that define our work,” said director and producer Mortimer, whose directorial credits include Children of God, Cargo and This is Paradise.

“This project sits at the intersection of what I love…thrillers with substance, narratives shaped by lived experience, and characters whose inner worlds are as volatile as their external ones.”

Founded by siblings Jake Casey (And Just Like That…) and Eva Casey (Stronghold), with Danielle Benedict (Heightened Scrutiny) heading business strategy and operations, The Dazey Phase develops and packages inclusive and responsible stories across scripted and non-fiction.

“I’ve admired Kareem’s voice for years…the specificity, the boldness, the emotional clarity,” said Casey. “House on Fire is the kind of project that aligns perfectly with The Dazey Phase’s mission: stories that challenge, stories that reflect lived realities, and stories that stay with you.”

House on Fire is currently in development, with financing underway and a targeted late-spring to early-summer production window. Casting announcements and additional creative attachments will be revealed in early 2026.
