The Lincoln Lawyer Spin-off Idea Addressed Before Season 4 Release

In the build-up to the release of The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4, program developer Ted Humphrey has addressed the prospects of introducing a spin-off prequel series in a bid to create an expanded universe. The Lincoln Lawyer co-showrunner opened up about the future of the fan-favorite Netflix series, revealing if he has any plans for extending the franchise beyond Manuel Garcia-Rulfo’s Mickey Haller.

The Good Wife executive producer confirmed that they have already thought of expanding the Lincoln Lawyer world.

Confirming that The Lincoln Lawyer spin-off could soon become a reality, Ted Humphrey noted while speaking with ScreenRant’s Jordan Williams, “From your lips to Ted Sarandos’ ears. Listen, that’s fascinating, and I think it could be very interesting. I will say that we absolutely have a wider universe for these characters in mind.”

Despite his grand plans for The Lincoln Lawyer, the veteran television and film writer admitted that the onus of continuing the show actually lies with its viewers. “Obviously, at the end of the day, the audience is who determines that, just like the audience is who determines the next season and how many seasons there are, if there’s a next season or whatever it is,” he remarked.

Given that the upcoming Lincoln Lawyer Season 4 is able to garner the optimal viewership count to ensure its expansion, Humphrey has an idea of what a spin-off prequel series could look like. “We definitely want to expand the world of Mickey’s personal life, his family, who this guy is, and where he finds himself, and who are the people that he calls family. Let’s put it that way. So we’re looking at all those things,” he explained.

At the time of writing, Netflix has yet to greenlight a spin-off project for The Lincoln Lawyer. However, it has already sanctioned a fifth season for the celebrated legal drama, albeit without an official release date.
